UNGU BAND

Generally speaking, the band called "Ungu" (literally means purple in English) is an Indonesian rock band formed in Jakarta in 1996. The formation of the group comprises vocalist Sigit Purnomo a.k.a Pasha, guitarists Enda and Onci, bassist Makki, and drummer Rowman. Before becoming Ungu, the initial formation of the band consisted of guitarist Ekky, bassist Herry Surya, drummer Pasha Akbar Firmasnyah and vocalist Ariyo Wahab.

However, Ariyo Wahab (former vocalist) and Herry Surya (former bassist) left the band and they were replaced by Michael Pattiradjawane and Makki Parikesit in 1996, and they decided to change their initial band name from Glover (1995-1996) to Ungu (1996 – present).

Furthermore, the band called "Ungu" has been consistently known as one of the biggest bands in Indonesia and has been productive over the years throughout their career. Starting with the release of their first album titled "Laguku" in 2002 which won the Platinum Award and sold over 150,000 copies, the band’s reputation soared to high level of fame with "Melayang" album which won Platinum Awards and Double Platinum Awards in 2005 and 2006 respectively. Bottom line, the band’s works has consistently won multiple national music awards such as MTV Indonesia Awards, AMI Awards, Inbox Awards and Indigo Awards.

Meanwhile, Ungu band is known for their hit singles, such as "Demi Waktu", "Tercipta Untukku", "Andai Ku Tahu", and "Kekasih Gelapku" (go and check out these hits on YouTube whenever you have time). As they gained mainstream popularity in Malaysia around 2006 with the release of their single "Demi Waktu" followed by their third album Melayang (2006), the band’s vocalist Sigit Purnomo a.k.a Pasha was elected as Deputy Mayor of Palu (Central Sulawesi, Indonesia) in 2016.

Although the group band’s vocalist named Pasha (Sigit Purnomo) was elected as the government official, he was still a member of the band. While he was serving as Deputy Mayor of Palu, his position was temporarily taken by the two guitarists (Enda and Onci).
